What is the title of the 2022 Need for Speed game?

The 2022 Need for Speed game is Need for Speed: Unbound. Developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts, it launched on December 2, 2022, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.

Unbound takes place in Lakeshore City, a fictional setting inspired by Chicago. Its central campaign follows street racers competing for money and status, while the game combines realistic car models with cel-shaded character designs, graffiti-inspired effects, and animated driving flourishes.

The title is easy to mix up with Need for Speed: Heat, which released in 2019 and preceded it, or Need for Speed: Rivals, which Criterion co-developed in 2013. Unbound was the first mainline Need for Speed game led by Criterion since 2012’s Most Wanted, although the studio had also worked on Hot Pursuit and Rivals.
