What is the title of the 2016 film whose screenplay was written by J.K. Rowling and begins a wizarding-world series?
Answer
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The 2016 film written by J.K. Rowling is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Released in 2016, the film follows magizoologist Newt Scamander in New York City in 1926. Magical creatures escape from his case, while tensions between the magical and non-magical communities create a wider crisis. Eddie Redmayne stars as Newt, with Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, and Colin Farrell also in the cast.
The film expands the wizarding world beyond Harry Potter and is set decades before Harry’s birth. Rowling wrote the screenplay, making it her screenwriting debut. The title is shared with a fictional Hogwarts textbook first mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
