The 2009 sequel to the Spanish zombie film [REC] is titled [REC] 2.
[REC] 2 continues directly from the events of the 2007 original, returning to the quarantined apartment building in Barcelona. The story follows a tactical police unit and a health official as they enter the sealed location to investigate the outbreak and recover crucial information.
Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, who co-directed the first film, also directed the sequel. The movie retains the first installment’s found-footage presentation, using handheld cameras and recorded perspectives to create a restricted and immediate view of the action.
The series later continued with [REC] 3: Genesis in 2012 and [REC] 4: Apocalypse in 2014. Those later films change the setting and style more noticeably, while [REC] 2 remains the direct continuation of the original apartment-building incident. The bracketed title is part of the official stylization.
