The title of J.K. Rowling’s 2020 standalone children’s novel about Cornucopia is The Ickabog.
The Ickabog is a fairy tale set in the fictional kingdom of Cornucopia. Its plot centers on a legendary creature called the Ickabog and the effects of fear, propaganda, and political manipulation on the kingdom’s people. The story is separate from Harry Potter and does not take place in the wizarding world.
Rowling wrote the story years earlier for her own children, then revisited it during the COVID-19 pandemic. She published it online in installments in 2020 and later released it as a book. Children contributed illustrations through a competition associated with the publication.
The title can be confused with Rowling’s other later children’s work, The Christmas Pig, which was published in 2021. The Ickabog is also distinct from The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a companion book connected to the Harry Potter universe.
