J.K. Rowling’s 2020 children’s fantasy novel about a fictional land ruled by the Ickabog is titled The Ickabog.
The story is set in the imaginary kingdom of Cornucopia, where the ruler and his advisers use fear of the Ickabog to influence the population. The Ickabog itself is a legendary creature whose supposed existence becomes central to the kingdom’s politics and public life.
Rowling published the story online in installments during 2020, inviting children to contribute illustrations. A print edition followed later that year, with proceeds directed to charities supporting people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The book is easy to confuse with The Christmas Pig because both are post-Harry-Potter children’s novels. Their premises differ: The Ickabog is a political fairy tale set in Cornucopia, while The Christmas Pig follows Jack’s search through a magical world for his lost toy.
