J.K. Rowling’s 2016 stage play sequel to Harry Potter is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The play is set nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Its story follows Harry as an adult employee of the Ministry of Magic and his younger son, Albus Severus Potter, who is beginning his education at Hogwarts. Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, is also central to the plot.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was written by Jack Thorne, based on an original story by Thorne, John Tiffany, and J.K. Rowling. It premiered in London’s West End in 2016 and was published as a rehearsal-script edition that same year.

Because the work is a play rather than a conventional Rowling novel, it is not counted as the eighth novel in the original Harry Potter book series.
