What is the title of J.K. Rowling’s 2001 charity book about a Hogwarts textbook?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s 2001 charity book about a Hogwarts textbook is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It is presented as a school textbook by the fictional magizoologist Newt Scamander.

The book is a companion work to Harry Potter rather than one of the seven main novels. Its fictional ownership notes and annotations make it appear to have been used by Harry Potter and Ron Weasley during their time at Hogwarts.

Proceeds from the original publication supported Comic Relief, a British charity. Rowling used the book’s fictional format to provide comic details about magical creatures and their classification.

The title was later used for the 2016 film and its sequels, but the charity book itself is much shorter and has a different structure. Quidditch Through the Ages was the other 2001 companion book published for the same charitable project.
