What is the profession of Cormoran Strike, the detective in J.K. Rowling’s crime novels?

Cormoran Strike, the detective in J.K. Rowling’s crime novels, is a private investigator.

Strike is the central character of the Cormoran Strike series, which Rowling writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. He operates a private detective agency in London and investigates cases that often involve wealthy, famous, or politically connected clients.

The character is a former military investigator who lost part of one leg while serving in Afghanistan. That injury affects his daily life and contributes to the series’ grounded portrayal of detective work. His professional partner, Robin Ellacott, becomes increasingly important as the books progress.

Strike is not a police officer, although his military background gives him investigative experience and contacts. The books are contemporary crime fiction rather than fantasy, and their cases are separate from Rowling’s Harry Potter stories. The pseudonym was initially kept secret before being publicly revealed in 2013.
