What is the name of the villainess in 'Sleeping Beauty'?

The story behind the answer

The villainess in Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” is Maleficent. She is the film’s principal antagonist and calls herself the “Mistress of All Evil.”

At Princess Aurora’s christening, Maleficent becomes angry that she was not invited and curses the baby. She declares that Aurora will prick her finger on a spinning-wheel spindle before her sixteenth birthday and die. The good fairies Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather soften the curse so that Aurora will instead fall into an enchanted sleep, to be broken by true love’s kiss.

Maleficent is portrayed as a powerful dark fairy who lives in the Forbidden Mountains and is accompanied by her raven, Diablo. Near the climax, she transforms into a gigantic dragon while battling Prince Phillip. The character first appeared in Disney’s 1959 animated film and was inspired by the wicked fairy in Charles Perrault’s fairy tale, as well as related European retellings. She is often confused with the Evil Queen from “Snow White,” Ursula from “The Little Mermaid,” or Cruella de Vil from “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”
