The video game Emmet plays at the beginning of The Lego Movie is called Instructions.
The game reflects the film's central joke about following directions. Emmet is an ordinary construction worker who lives by the instruction manual, follows the rules, and believes that doing exactly what he is told is the key to a happy life. The game is therefore both an in-world pastime and an early clue to his personality.
The title is easy to confuse with The Lego Movie Videogame, the real 2014 action-adventure game released alongside the film. That tie-in game is based on the movie and uses instruction pages as a gameplay mechanic, but it is not the game shown in the opening scene. Emmet's on-screen game is simply called Instructions.
Later, Emmet's reliance on instructions contrasts with the Master Builders, who create freely from loose LEGO pieces. His journey ultimately shows that creativity and independent thinking matter as much as following directions.
