Which actor voices Benny, the space-obsessed Master Builder, in The Lego Movie?

The story behind the answer

Charlie Day voices Benny, the space-obsessed Master Builder, in The Lego Movie.

Benny is a blue classic-style astronaut whose damaged helmet and worn chest printing make him look like a well-used 1980s Lego space figure. His defining trait is enthusiasm for spaceships: his repeated excitement over building one became one of the film’s most recognizable running jokes. Although he is comic relief, Benny is also a Master Builder and joins the resistance against Lord Business.

Benny helps the heroes during the fight against the Kragle and later appears among the characters affected by the Duplo invasion. The character’s design deliberately recalls older Lego Space themes, especially the familiar blue astronaut imagery associated with classic sets. That nostalgia helped make Benny memorable beyond his relatively small role.

A common mix-up is assigning Benny’s voice to Chris Pratt, who plays Emmet, or Will Arnett, who plays Batman. Charlie Day returned as Benny in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and also voiced him in other franchise appearances, while some video-game versions used different performers.
