Who voices the wizard Vitruvius in The Lego Movie?
Answer
Morgan Freeman
Answer
Morgan Freeman
Morgan Freeman voices the wizard Vitruvius in The Lego Movie.
Vitruvius is a blind, elderly wizard and one of the film’s most important Master Builders. He teaches Wyldstyle and believes that a prophesied figure called the Special will defeat Lord Business and stop the Kragle, a weapon capable of permanently gluing the Lego world together. Freeman’s performance gives the character a solemn, legendary tone while also fitting the film’s comic style.
Vitruvius is central to the story’s opening mythology. Lord Business defeats and blinds him while seeking the superweapon, so Vitruvius invents the prophecy of the Special. He later helps Emmet and the other Master Builders resist Lord Business, but the villain kills him during the confrontation at Octan Tower. Vitruvius returns briefly as a ghost and encourages Emmet to believe in himself.
Viewers sometimes confuse Freeman’s role with Liam Neeson’s dual performance as Bad Cop and Good Cop, or with Will Ferrell’s Lord Business. Freeman’s Vitruvius is the wise wizard; he is not the film’s villain or police officer.
