What is the name of the railway platform used by Harry Potter to board the Hogwarts Express?

The story behind the answer

Platform 9¾ is the fictional railway platform where Harry Potter boards the Hogwarts Express.

In J.K. Rowling’s novels, the platform is accessed inside London’s King’s Cross station by passing through the barrier between platforms 9 and 10. The Hogwarts Express then carries students to Hogsmeade station before each school year. Harry first uses the platform in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The unusual fraction is part of the fictional magic: ordinary travelers cannot see or use the platform in the same way. The location became one of the most recognizable pieces of Harry Potter imagery and appears in the film adaptations as well as related attractions.

King’s Cross station has a real Platform 9¾ photo point and a shop for visitors. The film version used a different station area for some platform scenes because the actual platforms at King’s Cross do not have the same arrangement shown in the story. The fictional platform should therefore not be confused with a normal numbered railway platform.
