What is the name of the official Glasgow 2026 mascot?

The story behind the answer

The official Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games mascot is Finnie.

Finnie is a Scottish unicorn, reflecting the unicorn’s status as Scotland’s national animal. The mascot was officially unveiled on 23 July 2025, exactly one year before the planned opening of the Glasgow Games. She was designed with input from 76 children representing 24 Glasgow schools, known collectively as the Mascot Makers.

Her name comes from the Finnieston Crane, the historic disused cantilever crane beside the River Clyde. Finnie also has a traffic cone as her horn, a reference to Glasgow’s famous tradition of placing traffic cones on the Duke of Wellington statue outside the Gallery of Modern Art. Other visual details evoke local landmarks and Glasgow’s industrial and cultural identity.

The main source of confusion is Clyde, the thistle mascot of Glasgow’s 2014 Commonwealth Games. Borobi represented the Gold Coast in 2018, and Perry was Birmingham’s mascot in 2022. Finnie replaced Clyde as Glasgow’s official Games mascot for 2026.
