What is the name of the newspaper in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books?

The newspaper in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books is The Daily Prophet.

It is the principal newspaper of the British wizarding community and appears throughout the series as a source of news, political influence, and public opinion. Its readers receive printed editions delivered by owl, a detail that reinforces the series’ magical communication system.

The Daily Prophet is not portrayed as a consistently independent publication. During the Ministry of Magic’s campaign against Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore, it publishes misleading reports and helps shape public distrust. Later, the newspaper becomes more supportive of the resistance to Voldemort.

A common mistake is to call it simply “The Prophet.” The full name is The Daily Prophet. It is also different from The Quibbler, the eccentric magazine associated with Luna Lovegood and her father, Xenophilius.
