What is the name of the London theatre play based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter story?

The story behind the answer

The London theatre play based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter story is Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The play premiered in London’s West End in 2016. Its story is set nineteen years after the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and follows adult Harry Potter, now a Ministry of Magic employee, and his son Albus Severus Potter. Draco Malfoy’s son, Scorpius, is also central to the plot.

The stage production was credited to Rowling, playwright Jack Thorne, and director John Tiffany. Thorne wrote the script from an original story created by the three collaborators. The published script appeared in 2016 as Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two.

The play was originally staged as a two-part production. It won multiple awards, including the Olivier Award for Best New Play, and later opened in other cities with revised staging formats.
