What is the name of the Himalayan range’s highest and northernmost major mountain chain?
Answer
Great Himalaya
Answer
Great Himalaya
The Great Himalaya is the highest and northernmost major mountain chain of the Himalayas.
It is also called the Great Himalayan Range or Himadri. This zone contains many of the Himalayas’ highest summits, including Mount Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu. Its peaks are generally higher and more heavily glaciated than those in the ranges farther south.
The Himalayas are often divided into three roughly parallel belts: the Great Himalaya, the Lesser Himalaya and the Outer Himalaya. The Lesser Himalaya is also known as Himachal, while the Outer Himalaya is commonly called the Shivalik Hills.
The Great Himalaya is not a single isolated ridge. It is a broad geological and topographic belt extending across several countries, shaped by the continuing collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
