The Dursleys live in the fictional English village of Little Whinging in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
The Dursley family’s home is at number four, Privet Drive, in Little Whinging. Harry lives there with his aunt Petunia, uncle Vernon and cousin Dudley before and between his years at Hogwarts. The ordinary suburban setting contrasts with the magical world that Harry gradually discovers.
Little Whinging is often mixed up with Hogsmeade, the wizarding village near Hogwarts, or Godric’s Hollow, the village associated with Harry’s parents and important events in wizarding history. Neither is the Dursleys’ home. The name is deliberately mundane, matching Rowling’s presentation of the Dursleys as intensely conventional people.
The village is fictional, but the Privet Drive scenes in the film adaptations used locations in England, including a house in Martins Heron, Bracknell, for the exterior of the original filming home.
