What is the name of the fictional school of magic created by J.K. Rowling in Harry Potter?

The story behind the answer

Hogwarts is the fictional school of magic created by J.K. Rowling in Harry Potter.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the main educational setting of the novels. It is a boarding school in Scotland where young witches and wizards study subjects such as Transfiguration, Potions, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts.

The school is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Students are sorted into houses, which compete for the House Cup and provide much of the series’ social structure.

Beauxbatons and Durmstrang are other European wizarding schools that appear in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Ilvermorny is a North American school described in later Wizarding World material. None of those names refers to Harry’s own school.
