The fictional kingdom in J.K. Rowling’s children’s book The Ickabog is called Cornucopia.
The Ickabog is a standalone political fairy tale set in the prosperous kingdom of Cornucopia. Its ruler, King Fred the Fearless, presides over a country whose apparent abundance and happiness conceal corruption, fear, and social inequality.
The title creature, the Ickabog, is a legendary being associated with the remote Marshlands. As rumors about it spread, political leaders exploit public fear for their own purposes. The story therefore combines a child-friendly adventure with themes involving propaganda, injustice, and the misuse of authority.
Rowling wrote the story earlier in her career and released it online in installments during 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. A print edition followed later that year, with royalties donated to charitable causes connected with the pandemic.
