Albus Dumbledore is the fictional Hogwarts headmaster played by Richard Harris in the first two Harry Potter films. Dumbledore is one of the most important characters created by J.K. Rowling.
In the books, he serves as headmaster for most of Harry’s time at Hogwarts and acts as a mentor in the struggle against Lord Voldemort. He is also a highly accomplished wizard whose history includes a youthful friendship and later conflict with Gellert Grindelwald.
Richard Harris portrayed Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. After Harris died in 2002, Michael Gambon played the role in the remaining original films. Jude Law later portrayed a younger Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts films, so the actor depends on the story’s period.
