What is the name of the fictional Hogwarts founder associated with Ravenclaw house in J.K. Rowling’s books?

The story behind the answer

Rowena Ravenclaw is the fictional Hogwarts founder associated with Ravenclaw house in J.K. Rowling’s books.

Ravenclaw was one of the four houses established at Hogwarts by the school’s founders. The house values intelligence, learning, creativity and wit. Its emblem is an eagle, and its traditional house colours are blue and bronze in the novels, although the films use blue and silver.

Rowena Ravenclaw’s daughter, Helena Ravenclaw, became the Grey Lady, Ravenclaw’s house ghost. Helena stole her mother’s diadem, which later became one of Lord Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Harry and his allies eventually locate and destroy it during the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The four founders are often mixed up because each gives a surname to a Hogwarts house. Rowena is linked to Ravenclaw, Godric to Gryffindor, Helga to Hufflepuff and Salazar to Slytherin. Their names and house traditions are introduced throughout the series rather than in one single origin chapter.
