What is the name of the episode where Xander becomes a hyena? The episode is titled “The Pack.”

“The Pack” is the sixth episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s first season. During a school field trip to the Sunnydale Zoo, Xander Harris and several students enter a quarantined hyena enclosure. A supernatural ritual causes the group to become possessed by hyena spirits, and Xander begins acting aggressively, selfishly, and cruelly.

The episode uses the possession story to exaggerate traits that Xander can sometimes display in ordinary life, including insecurity, bravado, and a desire to impress others. Buffy and Willow realize that their friend is not simply behaving badly and work with Giles to uncover the cause. The group eventually learns that zookeeper Dr. Weirick manipulated the ritual. A common mistake is to call the episode “Hyena,” but the official title is “The Pack,” referring to the possessed students and the predatory group dynamic.
