What is the name of the detective who first appears in J.K. Rowling’s novel The Cuckoo’s Calling?

The story behind the answer

Cormoran Strike is the detective who first appears in J.K. Rowling’s novel The Cuckoo’s Calling.

Strike is a private investigator and former military police investigator. In The Cuckoo’s Calling, he investigates the death of model Lula Landry, whose death was initially treated as a suicide. The case introduces Strike’s investigative methods and his professional partnership with Robin Ellacott.

Rowling wrote the crime series under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The books are separate from the Harry Potter novels: they are contemporary detective fiction for adults and use London locations, police procedures, personal conflicts, and evidence-based investigations rather than magic.

The series continued with The Silkworm, Career of Evil, Lethal White, Troubled Blood, The Ink Black Heart, and The Running Grave. Television adaptations use the title Strike in the United Kingdom. Cormoran Strike should not be confused with famous fictional detectives such as Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot.
