What is the name of the detective in J.K. Rowling’s Strike crime series?

The story behind the answer

Cormoran Strike is the detective in J.K. Rowling’s Strike crime series.

Strike is a private investigator who operates in London and is introduced in The Cuckoo’s Calling, published under Rowling’s pseudonym Robert Galbraith. He is a former military investigator who lost part of a leg during service in Afghanistan and later established his own detective agency.

Robin Ellacott becomes his temporary secretary and then an important investigative partner. Their professional relationship is a major continuing thread in the novels, alongside the individual cases they investigate.

Cormoran Strike is sometimes confused with Robert Galbraith because both names appear prominently in discussions of the books. Galbraith is the author name; Strike is the fictional detective. The television adaptation is titled Strike in Britain and C.B. Strike in some other markets.
