What is the name of the detective created by J.K. Rowling under the Robert Galbraith pseudonym?

The story behind the answer

The detective created by J.K. Rowling under the Robert Galbraith pseudonym is Cormoran Strike.

Cormoran Strike first appeared in The Cuckoo’s Calling, published in 2013. He is a private investigator in London and a former Special Investigation Branch investigator in the Royal Military Police. The character has a prosthetic lower leg after losing part of it during military service in Afghanistan, a detail that affects both his mobility and his personal history.

Strike investigates the death of model Lula Landry in the first novel. His temporary secretary, Robin Ellacott, becomes increasingly important to his cases and to the series’ long-term narrative. Their partnership develops through investigations involving wealthy families, authors, media figures, and criminal networks.

The character is sometimes confused with Newt Scamander because both belong to Rowling-created works outside the original Harry Potter novels. Strike, however, is a modern crime-fiction detective with no magical abilities. The books are published under the Robert Galbraith name, while Rowling’s authorship is openly acknowledged.
