The 2012 website J.K. Rowling created for the Harry Potter universe was called Pottermore.
Pottermore launched publicly in 2012 after an earlier period of registration and testing. It offered interactive experiences based on the Harry Potter books, including house sorting, wand selection, and additional writing by Rowling about the wizarding world. The site also became an official digital retailer for the e-book and audiobook editions of the novels.
In 2019, Pottermore was replaced by WizardingWorld.com, now commonly branded as Wizarding World. That change creates a frequent date-and-name mix-up: Pottermore is the original site, while Wizarding World is the later platform and brand. Rowling’s new material on the earlier website expanded details about characters, history, and magical institutions beyond what appeared in the seven main novels.
