What is the name of Shark Tank’s international source format?

The story behind the answer

Shark Tank is adapted from the international television format Dragons' Den.

Dragons' Den is a business reality format in which entrepreneurs present proposals to a panel of wealthy investors. The investors question the founders, negotiate valuation and ownership, and may offer money in exchange for equity.

The format began in Japan, where it was known as Money Tigers. Nippon TV developed the concept before it spread internationally under the Dragons' Den name. Different countries have produced their own editions with local investors and presenters.

The American adaptation uses the name Shark Tank rather than Dragons' Den. Its investors are called Sharks, but the central elements—entrepreneurial pitches, valuation negotiations and equity offers—remain closely related to the source format.
