Pottermore was the name of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding-world website launched in 2011. It combined interactive features, Harry Potter information, and new writing from Rowling.
The site originally invited users to move through illustrated moments from the Harry Potter books. Visitors could be sorted into Hogwarts houses, receive a wand, and explore extra material about characters, places, and magical subjects. Rowling also published background writing that expanded details not fully explained in the novels.
Pottermore later changed direction and became less focused on interactive game-like experiences. In 2019, the website was rebranded as Wizarding World, a broader digital home for Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts content.
The name Pottermore therefore refers specifically to the earlier website and brand, not to the whole fictional universe. The later Wizarding World site inherited much of its editorial role. The project was significant because it gave Rowling a direct way to release canon-related material outside the seven main novels.
