What is the name of J.K. Rowling’s screenplay series about magizoologist Newt Scamander?

Fantastic Beasts is the name of J.K. Rowling’s screenplay series about magizoologist Newt Scamander.

Rowling wrote the screenplays for the Fantastic Beasts film series, which began with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016. Eddie Redmayne plays Newt Scamander, a British wizard and magizoologist whose travels bring him into conflicts involving magical creatures and dark wizardry.

The films are set before the main Harry Potter story and expand the wizarding world beyond Hogwarts and Harry’s generation. Important characters include Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.

The title also echoes a fictional Hogwarts textbook attributed to Newt Scamander. Rowling originally published Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as a companion book in 2001, but the later film series develops a separate narrative around its credited author.
