J.K. Rowling’s online Harry Potter fan website launched in 2011 was called Pottermore. It combined interactive experiences with new writing and information about the wizarding world.
Pottermore opened to the public in April 2012 after an earlier limited registration period. Users could be sorted into a Hogwarts house, receive a wand, and move through illustrated moments based on the books. Rowling also published additional background material on characters, places, and wizarding history.
The site was created in partnership with Sony and initially included an online bookstore for digital Harry Potter editions and audiobooks. Its features and design changed over time as the project developed.
Pottermore was rebranded as Wizarding World in 2019. That later name refers to a broader official franchise platform and should not be substituted when identifying the original website name at its 2011 launch.
