What is the name of J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults?

J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults is The Casual Vacancy.

Published in 2012, the novel is set in the fictional English town of Pagford. Its plot begins with the sudden death of Barry Fairbrother, a parish councillor, which creates a vacant seat and exposes conflicts involving class, poverty, local politics, and community responsibility.

The book marked a clear departure from Rowling’s fantasy writing. It contains no magic or wizarding setting and is written for an adult audience. The BBC and HBO adapted it as a three-part television miniseries in 2015, with Michael Gambon, Rory Kinnear, and Monica Dolan among the cast.
