What is the name of J.K. Rowling’s detective protagonist in her crime novels?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s detective protagonist is Cormoran Strike. He is the central character in the crime series Rowling began publishing under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Strike is a former Special Investigation Branch investigator who becomes a private detective in London. His business partner is Robin Ellacott, whose professional relationship with him develops across the novels. The first book, The Cuckoo’s Calling, was published in 2013.

Cormoran Strike should not be confused with Newt Scamander, a fictional magizoologist associated with Rowling’s Wizarding World. Strike belongs to a contemporary crime setting, while Newt appears in Fantastic Beasts stories.

The crime novels were initially attributed to Robert Galbraith. Rowling’s authorship was publicly revealed in 2013, but the series continued to use the Galbraith name on its books. Television adaptations titled Strike have also been made from the novels.
