The Cuckoo’s Calling
Answer
The Cuckoo’s Calling
The Cuckoo’s Calling is the first novel featuring J.K. Rowling’s detective protagonist Cormoran Strike.
Published in 2013 under the name Robert Galbraith, the novel introduces Strike as a private investigator in London. He is hired to investigate the death of model Lula Landry, which the police have treated as a suicide.
The book begins the Cormoran Strike series and introduces Robin Ellacott, who becomes Strike’s temporary secretary and an important partner in later investigations. Rowling continued the series with The Silkworm, Career of Evil, Lethal White and subsequent novels.
The title is sometimes mixed up with the later books, especially The Silkworm and Career of Evil. Those novels continue the same detective partnership but are not the series opener. The television adaptation uses the broader title Strike rather than simply reproducing the first book’s title.
