J.K. Rowling’s 2012 interactive writing website for Harry Potter fans was called Pottermore. The site launched in beta in April 2012 after an earlier announcement and offered interactive features, illustrations and new writing by Rowling.
Pottermore was designed as a digital companion to the Harry Potter books. Users could move through selected moments from the novels, be sorted into a Hogwarts house, receive a wand and explore background material. Rowling also published additional information about characters, places and wizarding customs.
The name was changed to Wizarding World in 2019 as the online platform expanded beyond Harry Potter to include Fantastic Beasts and other material. The Wizarding World brand now covers a broader collection of official entertainment and fan-facing resources.
Because of that rebranding, Pottermore is often remembered as the current name of the website. Historically, however, Pottermore is the correct name for the original interactive platform launched during the Harry Potter digital publishing era.
