Jinu’s six-eyed magpie in KPop Demon Hunters is named Sussie.
Sussie appears alongside Derpy, Jinu’s blue pet tiger. Both animals are connected to Korean minhwa, a folk-art tradition that frequently depicts tigers, magpies, and pine trees. In particular, the film draws from the Hojak-do style.
The magpie is not merely decorative. The animals occupy an ambiguous space between the human and demon worlds, and Derpy becomes a way for Rumi and Jinu to communicate. Sussie accompanies that unusual relationship and adds comic energy to Jinu’s scenes.
The tiger and magpie imagery also reflects the film’s broader approach to cultural design. Rather than using generic fantasy creatures, the filmmakers adapted recognizable Korean visual motifs and reshaped them for a supernatural pop-music setting.
