Hermione Granger’s half-Kneazle cat in the Harry Potter series is named Crookshanks.
Hermione buys Crookshanks at the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley before her third year at Hogwarts. The cat has a distinctive flattened face and bushy, ginger-colored fur. He quickly becomes involved in the conflict surrounding Ron Weasley’s rat, Scabbers.
Crookshanks can recognize that Scabbers is not an ordinary rat. Scabbers is actually Peter Pettigrew, an Animagus who has been hiding in animal form. Crookshanks also assists Sirius Black after recognizing that Sirius is not the dangerous creature many witches and wizards believe him to be.
Crookshanks is described as part-Kneazle, a magical cat-like creature known for intelligence and the ability to detect untrustworthy people. He is not Hermione’s only animal association: she also briefly keeps a large jar of insects during lessons, but Crookshanks is her notable named pet.
