What is the main tectonic fault beneath the Himalayas where the Indian Plate underthrusts Eurasia?

The story behind the answer

The Main Himalayan Thrust is the major tectonic fault beneath the Himalayas where the Indian Plate underthrusts the Eurasian Plate.

This enormous, gently dipping fault accommodates the ongoing collision that built the Himalayan mountain system. The Indian Plate continues moving northward, generally at several centimetres per year, so the Himalayas remain tectonically active and continue to rise.

The Main Himalayan Thrust is not the same as the Main Central Thrust or Main Boundary Thrust, which are important faults within the mountain belt. Earthquakes on or near this broader fault system can produce destructive Himalayan earthquakes, including the 2015 Nepal earthquake.
