Quidditch is the magical sport created by J.K. Rowling and played on broomsticks in Harry Potter.
The game is played by two teams of seven players flying on broomsticks. Players use several enchanted balls: the Quaffle, two Bludgers, and the Golden Snitch. Different positions have distinct roles, including Chasers, Beaters, a Keeper, and a Seeker.
A team scores with the Quaffle through one of three hoops, while catching the Golden Snitch traditionally awards 150 points and ends the match. Harry becomes Gryffindor’s Seeker, making the sport a recurring part of the early novels.
Quidditch is fictional, although its terminology and structure inspired real-world broomstick sports. The name should not be confused with wizard chess or Gobstones, which are separate magical activities in Rowling’s world.
