What is the highest mountain in the landlocked country Nepal?

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in Nepal and the highest point on Earth.

Everest rises to 8,848.86 metres above sea level, according to the 2020 height jointly announced by Nepal and China. The mountain stands on the Nepal–China border in the Himalayas. Nepal’s name for it is Sagarmatha, while Tibetans commonly call it Chomolungma.

The first confirmed ascent was achieved in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay. Their climb followed several earlier expeditions and attempts. Everest attracts mountaineers from around the world, but high altitude, extreme weather and avalanches make the ascent dangerous.

Kangchenjunga is the world’s third-highest mountain and lies farther east, on the Nepal–India border. It is therefore not Nepal’s highest summit.
