The Dursleys’ home in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novels is 4 Privet Drive.
The house is located in Little Whinging, Surrey, and is where Harry lives with his aunt Petunia, uncle Vernon, and cousin Dudley before beginning his education at Hogwarts. The address appears at the very start of the series and remains an important point of connection between Harry’s ordinary and magical lives.
Harry sleeps in the cupboard under the stairs when the story begins, although he later receives a bedroom. The Dursleys dislike magic and try to prevent Harry from learning about his parents and the wizarding world.
Readers sometimes mix up Privet Drive with other important addresses. 12 Grimmauld Place is the ancestral home of the Black family and later serves as a headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix. The fictional Privet Drive was inspired by ordinary suburban streets rather than a magical landmark.
