Answer
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Answer
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
The American title of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter debut is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
The novel was first published in the United Kingdom as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 1997. When Scholastic prepared the United States edition, the publisher changed “Philosopher” to “Sorcerer” for the title because editors believed American children would respond more readily to the new wording.
The story, characters, and plot are otherwise the same. Both titles refer to the magical stone sought by Nicolas Flamel and protected at Hogwarts. The object can produce the Elixir of Life and transform metal into gold.
The differing titles can make the books appear to be separate novels, but they are editions of the same first installment. The film also used Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States and Philosopher’s Stone in many other English-speaking markets.
