What is the Airbus A350’s primary fuselage material?
Answer
Carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer
Answer
Carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer
Carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer is the primary material used for the Airbus A350’s fuselage.
The A350 was designed with a high proportion of composite structures, including a carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer fuselage and major wing components. Composite materials can reduce structural weight and resist corrosion, although they require specialised manufacturing, inspection and repair techniques.
The A350 is a twin-engine wide-body family available in several passenger variants. Its composite construction is one of the aircraft’s defining technological features and helped Airbus compete with other new-generation long-haul designs.
The aircraft is not made entirely from composites. Aluminium-lithium alloys, titanium and other materials are also used in different structures and systems. This distinction matters because descriptions of the A350 as a “composite aircraft” refer to its unusually extensive composite construction, not to every component being made from one material.
