What is J.K. Rowling’s first Fantastic Beasts screenplay called?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s first Fantastic Beasts screenplay is called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The title was first used for a 2001 charity companion book credited to Newt Scamander, a fictional author within the Harry Potter universe. Rowling later used the concept for the screenplay of the 2016 film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which marked her screenwriting debut.

The film is set in 1926, decades before the main Harry Potter story, and follows magizoologist Newt Scamander in New York City. Eddie Redmayne plays Newt, while the story introduces characters and conflicts connected to the wider wizarding world.

The title can be confused with the two later films in the series: The Crimes of Grindelwald, released in 2018, and The Secrets of Dumbledore, released in 2022. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play script, not a Fantastic Beasts screenplay.
