At the start of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Ethan Winters is searching for his missing wife, Mia Winters.
Ethan receives a video message from Mia, who had been presumed dead for three years. Following the message leads him to a derelict plantation in Dulvey, Louisiana, where he encounters the Baker family and the Mold-based bioweapon Eveline.
Mia’s disappearance links the domestic mystery at the beginning of the game to a larger biological-weapons operation. Ethan’s search therefore becomes a struggle to understand what happened to Mia and why the Baker family has changed.
Resident Evil 7 was released in 2017 and shifted the main series to a first-person viewpoint. Although Ethan is a new protagonist, the game retains recurring series elements such as puzzles, restricted resources, laboratories, and Umbrella-related history.
