Gianmarco Tamberi won the men’s high jump at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham by clearing 2.32 metres.
Tamberi represented Italy and defeated Ukraine’s Oleh Doroshchuk, who cleared 2.30 metres. Italy’s Matteo Sioli won bronze at 2.27 metres. The three medal heights were all achieved by athletes from different stages of the European high-jump tradition.
High jumpers run toward a bar, take off from one foot, and pass over it without dislodging it. Modern competitors generally use the Fosbury Flop, travelling over the bar back-first. Tamberi’s 2.32-metre clearance was a season’s best, rather than a championship record.
