The Swedish world-record holder defended his European title with a championship-record clearance at Alexander Stadium. His mark was the best performance in the men’s pole vault final and extended his sequence of European outdoor titles to four.
Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis finished second after clearing 6.00 metres. The pair are long-time rivals and friends, making the final one of the most anticipated field events of the championships.
Pole vault is decided by the greatest height cleared, with athletes receiving three attempts at each height. A clearance counts only when the bar remains in place, so the winning height is not the same as the number of attempts used.
