What giant live-action cat becomes the mascot of Ninjago in The Lego Ninjago Movie?

The story behind the answer

The giant live-action cat that becomes Ninjago’s mascot in The Lego Ninjago Movie is Meowthra. The character is deliberately presented as a real cat filmed in live action inside an otherwise computer-animated Lego world.

Lloyd Garmadon initially uses the so-called Ultimate Weapon, only to discover that it is a laser pointer. The beam attracts Meowthra, who rampages through Ninjago and destroys the ninjas’ vehicles and machines. The joke turns an ordinary household cat into a disaster-sized threat.

The film’s plot later reveals that Meowthra is not defeated through brute force. Lloyd approaches and calms her, demonstrating the importance of empathy and his connection to the color green, which represents life. After the conflict, Meowthra becomes the mascot of Ninjago.

Meowthra is easy to mix up with other animal-themed names in the Lego universe, but names such as Queasy Kitty and Ultrakatty are not the cat mascot from this film. The cat was portrayed by Pearl and Ruby.
