What game engine powers the Resident Evil 4 remake released in 2023?
Answer
RE Engine
Answer
RE Engine
The 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake is powered by Capcom’s RE Engine.
RE Engine is Capcom’s proprietary technology used for many modern Resident Evil releases. It supports the remake’s detailed environments, character models, lighting, animation, and visual effects while allowing the game to run across multiple console generations and on Windows.
The remake reimagines the 2005 Resident Evil 4 rather than simply reproducing it. It retains Leon S. Kennedy’s mission to rescue Ashley Graham but revises areas, combat systems, character scenes, and story details. Its technical presentation is therefore part of a broader redesign of the original game.
Capcom developed RE Engine for the company’s modern productions, beginning with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. It was later used in titles including Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil Village, and the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. The engine is not the same as Konami’s Fox Engine or Capcom’s older MT Framework.
