What frame rate was used for some Spider-Man: Brand New Day shots?

Some Spider-Man: Brand New Day shots were filmed at 420 frames per second. The unusually high frame rate was used to capture highly detailed slow-motion imagery.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton said that performing for footage recorded at that speed was extremely difficult. Human movement can look dramatically different when time is stretched so far.

The production used this approach for comic-inspired images, including shots involving Spider-Man and the Hand. One Spider-Man-and-Hand shot required at least 65 takes to achieve the desired result.

Frame rate is the number of individual images recorded or displayed each second. Standard cinema commonly uses 24 frames per second, so 420 frames per second captures far more motion detail for later slow-motion playback.
